WINDSOR, Ont. — Police say a man is facing charges after officers responded on a report of a cyclist with a large knife concealed in his pants.

They say the suspect was spotted early Sunday afternoon near a Windsor, Ont., park and officers called for him to stop using the public address system on their cruiser.

It’s alleged the man got off his bicycle and began running toward a splash pad where children were playing, but was tackled by an officer.

Investigators say the knife turned out to be a hatchet with a taped handle and they also seized an air soft pistol and suspected oxycodone tablets.

Darrell McNaughton, 38, from Windsor is charged with obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
