When one thinks of surfing, Portugal isn’t a hotspot that first pops in your head.

However, the small fishing village of Nazure is now becoming known for the watersport thanks to surfer Garrett McNamara.

The village’s residents once feared the giant waves that plagued the town because of the many lives that were lost because of them. While most townspeople avoid the sea, surfers relish conquering the massive waves.
