‘Super Dave Osborne’ actor Bob Einstein dies at 76
Character actor Bob Einstein, best known for his roles on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and creator of the goofy stuntman Super Dave Osborne, has died.
The two-time Emmy winner passed away Wednesday in Indian Wells, Calif. He was 76 and recently had been diagnosed with cancer.
Einstein played Marty Funkhouser on Curb, appearing in nearly two dozen episodes starting with the show’s premiere. Before that, he was most famous for portraying inept stuntman Super Dave Osborne on a self-titled show on Showtime in the 1980’s.
But he started his career as a writer and won an Emmy as part of the writing team for The Smithers Brothers Comedy Hour. He also wrote for The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour in 1972 and 1974.
His older brother, actor and director Albert Brooks, paid tribute on social media.
“R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein. A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever,” Brooks tweeted.
