Hit series Vikings is to end after six seasons.

The History Channel’s top show will wind down with a 20-episode final season, which is expected to debut later this year and conclude in 2020.

Vikings creator Michael Hirst is already working on a spinoff series with the same creative team as the original, according to Deadline sources.

The show is currently mid-way through it’s 20-episode fifth season on History.

Vikings debuted in 2013 and remains the network’s number one scripted series of all time.
